Biography of Dennis H. Delk

Dennis is a native of Tampa, Florida, and a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois earning his BS. He began his railroad career in February of 1978 and retired from the United States Air Force Reserves in 1997.

 

Dennis, 52, joined Southern Railway Company in 1078 and worked with motive power and fright equipment in Charleston, South Carolina. In 1989 he joined the Association of American Railroads as Mechanical Inspector, Salt Lake City, Utah and was assigned as Training Officer from 1991 to 1993. In 1994 Dennis Dennis served as Chief Inspector Western United States and Canada providing field operations oversight for the Bureau of Explosives 1st responders (Hazardous Materials) and Mechanical Inspection Department Personnel. In 1994, Dennis moved to Washington, D.C. and served as Director Field Operations for the United States, Canada & Mexico. In 1998, Dennis was assigned to the Transportation Technology Center, Inc. Pueblo, Colorado as Director Mechanical Inspection overseeing mechanical inspections and quality assurance audits to insure the integrity of the freight rail equipment in the United States, Canada and Mexico. After September 2001, Dennis was appointed as Executive Director Railroad Security, Washington, D.C. and was asked to establish the AAR Operations Center-Railway Alert network (RAN) and to work full-time on coordinating railroad security initiatives.

 

Dennis left the rail industry after 26 years after being asked to work for the MITRE Corporation in support of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary, Infrastructure Protection office.  His responsibilities lie with the rail freight, passenger and public transit sectors. Dennis is an advisor to Department of Homeland Security Staff and other departments and government agencies on rail infrastructure protection issues with direct input into the development of the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) and the Transportation Sector Plans. 

 

Dennis and Pamela have one daughter and have been married 26 years and reside in Manassas, Virginia.
